It is true that we all face good times and bad. When we are down emotionally, or feeling internally weary, we need to identify the cause of why we don't feel close to God and then take appropriate action.
Is it Physical, Emotional or Spiritual? Sometimes the devil (satan, the accuser) will resist us and remind us of some dark area in the past.
Or get us comparing ourselves to others, etc. In these cases we need to overcome these temptations through: The power of God's Word and the Holy Spirit.
A) The Word of God
Identify the area you are struggling and go to the Word of God and feed yourself specific to your need.
Go to the index at the back of your bible and look up all the verses where that word is mentioned.
For example if Im wrestling with fear, I read:
2 Timothy 1: 7
..God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of Love, of Power and of a Sound Mind.
or Isaiah 43: 1
..But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob,And He who formed you, O Israel: “ Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.
There are 365 verses in the bible that tell us to "Fear not". One for every day of the year.
As we reflect and process these verses, ie: think and ponder on the words and what they mean, the revelation of God will over take our fear and we will grow in confidence and faith.
This principle applies to all areas of our lives.
B) The Power of the Holy Spirit.
The new testament clearly indicates how to reenergise ourselves and be filled with the Spirit of God.
1. Pray in the spirit 1 Corinthians 14: 4
2. Sing to the lord Isaiah 54: 1
Ephesians 5: 18-19
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
3. Engage in good fellowship with members of your spiritual family (Church) who are full of the Holy Sprit.
4. Be consistent in your devotional time with the Lord to speak to Him and let Him renew your strength. We will give priority to what we see is important.
